splitting hairs and atoms

today was my first day of work in over 3 months. it felt good to be out in the sun again, putting this old body of mine to use. south carolina is fairly warm this time of year (27 degrees today) and apparently it's only gonna get hotter. we're working in the city of greenville located in the northeast corner of the state. our journey here was long - 12 hours on a bus followed by 3 different flights to our final destination. we spent one night in minneapolis on the 20th of April where i was hoping to catch modest mouse in concert but failed so instead, we partied it up at a small, hazy downtown venue spinnin' various hip-hop and reggae. it was weird being the only white dudes there but nevertheless, good times were had and shared by all.
for my time in south carolina, i've committed myself to spending my evenings reading, writing, and exercising. i'm trying hard to digest a few philosophical books i have on hand, but it seems i can only get through a few pages before falling asleep (sorry Mr Russell, Bukowski and Vonnegut are more my style). i've also tried to keep up a journal of sorts consisiting of random thoughts, quotes, ideas, etc. its interesting to look back on posts from the past and realize how much my perspectives have changed/evolved over the years. and although i consider myself more "knowledgeable" than i was five years ago, it seems im more unsure of things than i've ever been. the basic questions still linger... why are we here? what is this life for? origins of the universe? morals, politics, war, religion? they all go hand-in-hand, but does any of it matter?
i heard an interesting theory the other day ... and although i dont know much about physics, it was still interesting nonetheless... this was basically the jist of it: everything in the universe is composed of atoms. These atoms are made up of sub-atoms (electrons, protrons, and neutrons). And, ultimately, these sub-atoms are composed of nothing more than waves of energy. Therefore, the world as we know, our universe and everything in it, is made of nothing.
i know, there's probably a lot more to it than that...
but the canuck's game is on.
so,
good night and godspeed.
